The French regulator Arcom has launched a public consultation to determine the capacity of a new multiplex for Ultra HD DTT services.
In a statement, it says that it has been contacted by the government to grant France Télévisions a right to use frequencies to allow the broadcasting of France 2 and France 3 in Ultra HD, over a large part of mainland France and nine overseas territories, from 2024.
It adds that other parties have also expressed their interest in broadcasting a service in this format by this deadline.
Arcom goes on to say that in order to meet these demands, a multiplex, using new standards, should be deployed. It has therefore initiated several technical projects in this direction and is now also launching a public consultation.
Responses to the public consultation are expected no later than September 13 and should be sent electronically to uhd@arcom.fr.
