Sky Deutschland is following the trend towards price-reduced, ad-supported versions of subscription streaming services.
Sky’s streaming service WOW now offers a basic subscription for series fans with advertising for €7.99 per month, while the version with films and series is available for €9.98 per month. The subscription can be cancelled monthly. Customers committing themselves for six months, pay only €5.99 or €7.98 per month respectively.
Sports fans can choose between two basic live sports subscriptions: the monthly subscription for €29.99 and the 12-month subscription for €24.99 per month.
The premium versions of the WOW packages cost €5 per month extra. In addition to being free of advertising, they allow streaming on up to two devices simultaneously, in Full HD and with Dolby 5.1 surround sound. Existing WOW customers automatically receive an upgrade to the premium plan. New customers taking out a WOW Basic subscription receive WOW Premium free of charge for seven days as a trial.
In addition to WOW Premium, WOW is introducing technical innovations: Whereas WOW previously required the download of a player on the PC, customers can now stream directly in the browser. There is also an improved user interface, which includes, for example, an enhanced search function. The autoplay function is also new: the next episode is played automatically as soon as the current one is finished, which is particularly aimed at binge-watching fans.
