Netflix has introduced one of the key elements of its anti-piracy strategy.
The streamer has now made it possible for Members to port one account to another. Prior to Tuesday it was only possible to transfer a profile to a new account. The Transfer Profile feature debuted last autumn amid Netflix’s plan to reduce the amount of account sharing.
It means a subscriber can port details of their favourite shows, recommendations and viewing history to a new or existing account if they create a new account or simply change households to one where there Is already a Netflix account.
Since May, Netflix has been issuing reminder emails to households where it suspects password sharing has been taking place.
Emails have been issued in 103 countries and territories including the United States, UK, France, Germany, Australia, Singapore, Mexico and Brazil, Netflix has reminded sharers that Netflix accounts should only be used in one household.
In the case of account holders living in the United States, they can share their account with someone who doesn’t live with them for an additional $7.99 a month.
