Russia’s State Committee for Radio Frequencies is preparing to extend analogue TV broadcasting in the country for another two years.
According to ComNews, all broadcasters interested in continuing to offer analogue TV services must submit applications to the regulator Roskomnadzor by July 20.
Quoting Alexander Shirokikh, CEO of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAT), it adds that there are still more than 100 TV channels, including thematic services, in Russia still broadcasting in analogue and most are interested in obtaining an extension.
Shirokikh also said that the issue of whether regional broadcasters are willing to move to the lower part of the 470-790 MHz band, freeing up the upper part to mobile operators, has yet to be discussed with interested parties. At the same time, NAT is satisfied with the prospect of a two-year extension for analogue TV broadcasting.
Shirokikh also pointed out that regional broadcasters are still interested in a third regional multiplex, which provides capacity for 10 digital TV channels.
