BT has begun the search for a new chief executive after Philip Jansen informed the Board he intends to step down “at an appropriate moment in the next 12 months.
Adam Crozier, BT Group Chairman said: “Philip has done an excellent job in his time at BT and the Board is fully supportive of our long-term strategy which he and his team are pursuing. Whilst we are still in the early years of that transformation we are on track to deliver.
Under his stewardship, BT has moved away from the pay-TV business, opening up a joint venture with Warner Bros. Discovery that will see BT Sport emerge as TNT Sports.
Paolo Pescatore, a Tech, Media & Telco Analyst with PP Foresight said the move had been on the cards for some time.
“There’s not much more left for him to do. He has helped navigate the group through a difficult period. Probably time to think about the next chapter for both him and BT. Openreach is now in a better place, consolidated the enterprise function and moving away from costly sports rights.
“All eyes now turn on the successor. A prime candidate is already at the business with Marc Allera who heads up the consumer segment.”
Philip Jansen, joined BT in 2018 and was previously co-chief executive of payment services group Worldpay.
