Proximus rolls out 10 Gbps services nationally

June 30, 2023 07.27 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Following the launch in five major cities at the beginning of this year, the Belgian operator Proximus’s Multigig technology is now also available in all areas where there is fibre coverage.

The fastest internet in Belgium for uploads, downloads and latency, is being integrated into new Flex Fibre packs for residential customers from July 10 and existing fibre customers will also get higher speeds automatically.

According to Proximus, its ambition is to provide all families with a Gigabit connection by 2032, and fibre is an important enabler.

At the end of March, Proximus had reached a national coverage rate of 23%, with nearly 1.4 million homes and businesses connected. The fibre rollout is currently under way in 106 towns and cities across the country. In the Brussels region, more than 50% of the population is already covered.

Commenting on the development, Jim Casteele, consumer market lead at Proximus, said: “The rollout of the Gigabit network in Belgium is one of the most important pillars of our bold2025 strategy. After the launch in five cities earlier this year, I am proud to announce that the Multigig technology will be available in all fiber zones of Belgium from 10 July. Proximus is integrating the ultra-fast technology into the residential offer with 3 renewed Flex Fiber packs, guaranteeing an unparalleled surfing experience from 2.5 Gbps to 8.5 Gbps via 10 Gbps technology. With the fastest Internet via fiber, Proximus sets itself apart from its competitors. And it does this in terms of speed as well as stability and symmetrical speeds – a first in Belgium”.
