OTT services in Russia are spending 30% more on original productions than they did a year ago.
According to TelecomDaily, the amount invested in such content amounted to R54 billion (€575 million) in the first quarter and will exceed R207 billion in 2023.
It adds that last year OTT services produced 89 original film projects, of which 64 were feature series and 25 full length feature films. In the first five months of 2023, they released 108 titles, 78 of which were originals.
Unique content available only on selected OTT services is the most common reason Russian users pay for subscriptions. Discounts are also a very common reason.
Start remains the leader in the production of original content, releasing seven films and the same number of TV series in the first four and a half months of 2023. Second place is shared by Kion, Premier, Okko, each with 12 pieces of original content. Next come Ivi, Kinopoisk, more.tv and Wink.
TelecomDaily forecasts that the market in originals will grow by 40-45% this year.
