The Polish Senate will hold the first ever public debate on the future of local TV services on July 5.
In a statement, the Polish Chamber of Electronic Communications (PIKE) has invited representatives of such services to participate in the debate, which will see the launch of a national campaign entitled ‘let’s save our local televisions’.
PIKE points out that there are currently 150 local TV stations in Poland watched by over 5 million people. However, they are underfunded through lack of advertising and there is a need to amend the Broadcasting Act so that they can be supported through the state budget.
The discussion will be attended by media market experts, representatives of local television and politicians, including members of the Parliamentary Committee on Digitisation, Innovation and Modern Technologies, the Parliamentary Committee on Culture and Media, the Senate Committee on Culture and Media and the Senate Team for Small and Medium Enterprises.
