The Lithuanian regulator LRTK has blocked IP addresses that allow viewing of Russian TV channels prohibited from broadcasting in Lithuania.
In a statement, LRTK says that it has taken the action in accordance with the regulations of the Council of the European Union.
The channels are: – RT – Russia Today in English RT, Russia Today UK, RT – Russia Today Germany, RT – Russia Today France, RT – Russia Today in Spanish, Sputnik, Rossiya RTR/RTR Planeta, Rossiya 24/Russia 24, TV Center International, NTV/NTV Mir, Rossiya 1, REN TV and Pervyi Kanal.
The regulator goes on to say: “Since prohibited television programmes are transmitted using an internet connection, it can be concluded that ISPs contribute to the transmission of prohibited television programmes. Therefore, they are required to take all possible measures to prevent content listed in the regulations from being accessible.
“Therefore, LRTK made a decision to instruct providers of public electronic communications networks and public electronic communications services to cancel the access to the specified IP addresses that access television programmes that are subject to restrictive measures (sanctions) approved by the Council of the European Union”.
