MWE Networks buys Poland’s Golf Channel

June 18, 2023 08.34 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

MWE Networks has acquired 100% of shares in Golf Zone, the company that broadcasts Golf Channel Polska, for an undisclosed fee.

As a result, Golf Channel Polska will become the first sports channel in MWE’s extensive portfolio.

Commenting on the acquisition, Michal Winnicki, the owner of the MWE Networks group, said: “I am extremely proud that I was able to communicate with the owners of Golf Zone very quickly and close the transaction in just a few days. Golf Channel Polska has excellent distribution with the largest operators, Polsat Box, Canal+, Netia, UPC Polska, Vectra and Multimedia, but we will try to quickly introduce it to the offers of smaller and medium-sized pay-TV operators. We will also bet on a wider possibility of watching the channel via the internet. At the moment, we are integrating Golf Channel Polska with the broadcasting systems of MWE Networks, and from July we will make its programming offer much more attractive. We are also looking forward to cooperating with the Polsat Media advertising office”.

Marek Sowa, chairman of the supervisory board and co-founder of Golf Channel Polska, added: “This is very good news for Polish golf and the media market. Negotiations with MWE Networks were finalised in record time. Golf Channel Polska is an ambitious, unique project that fits perfectly into the growing awareness of a healthy lifestyle in our country. It will continue and now has new opportunities as part of a larger media group”.

Izabela Paldyna, president of the management board of Golf Channel Polska, said: “It is a great satisfaction for us that the time and energy of a relatively small team of enthusiasts has been appreciated. Golf Channel Polska has a new owner, we are convinced that this means new horizons for this unique channel”.

The new composition of the supervisory board and the management board of Golf Zone will be announced shortly. It is also planned to move the headquarters to Szczecin, although sports editors and commentators will also be able to work in the Warsaw office of MWE Networks.

MWE Networks is a leading Polish media group with a portfolio that includes the national channel Antena HD; supra-regional TVC; music channels Power TV, Nuta.TV, Nuta Gold; children’s channels Top Kids, Junior Music; and thematic channels: Home TV, Adventure, Filmax, Xtreme TV and Ultra TV 4K.

It also operates terrestrial DVB-T/T2 multiplexes in such cities as Wroc?aw, Swidnica, Jelenia Góra, Czestochowa, Tomaszow Mazowiecki, Szczecin and Katowice.
