Orange expects to return to growth in Spain this year irrespective of the outcome of its proposed merger with MásMóvil.
According to El Pais, its management has assured that its ‘Back to Growth’ plan is being fulfilled and that it does not envisage any downward deviation in its budgeted objectives for 2023.
The management adds that Spain’s telecom market is one of the most competitive in Europe, with five main operators and hundreds of smaller ones mostly focused on the residential sector. Operators are concentrating on securing and maintaining their customers bases rather than attracting new ones from others.
Orange has a 20% share of the market, with Telefónica claiming 50% and a higher proportion of the business sector.
MásMóvil is growing slowly, while Digi, despite having almost 5 million customers, is still behind more established players but gaining new customers more quickly than its competitors.
Orange is anticipating the merger with MásMóvil, which is awaiting the approval of the European Commission, to start at the beginning of 2024.
