HBO Max is putting up the price of a monthly subscription, the first time it has raised prices since launch.
Effective Tuesday (June 13), the price of a new HBO Max monthly subscription in the Nordics and Spain will increase by the equivalent of €1 per month and €2 per month in Bulgaria and Portugal.
Existing direct and app store subscribers will see their monthly rate increase effective in their next billing cycle after 13 July 2023.
It means that in Norway, the cost of a monthly subscription will rise from NOK 89 to NOK 99. In Finland, the cost rises from €8.99 to €9.99 per month, while in Bulgaria the pricepoint moves from €4.99.
HBO Max says the price increase is a result of higher costs of content creation and product development.
Despite the raise, HBO Max remains competitive against other European streamers. In Norway Netflix’s mid-tier Standard subscription costs NOK 109 a month, while in Bulgaria the cost is €7.99.
