Irdeto deploys multi-DRM across RTHK

June 7, 2023 11.44 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Hong Kong’s largest free-to-air broadcaster, RTHK, has selected Irdeto Control as its multi-DRM solution for all its video streaming platforms.

The broadcaster will use the technology to both protect its premium video content and scale its streaming services.

RTHK is investing in premium to strengthen its position against pay-TV operators and streaming video providers in the region. Irdeto Control’s multi-DRM service and features, such as Geo Blocking and VPN Detection, will protect and prevent its content investments from being pirated.

“We are honoured to have been selected by RTHK for their multi-DRM solution. Consumer appetite for streaming video content and heavy competition from local and global players show no signs of slowing down. Free-to-air broadcasters like RTHK need to have the peace of mind that their video content is secured and available so they can focus on delivering a compelling proposition to their viewers,” said Andrew Bunten, COO for Video Entertainment at Irdeto.

This is the first deployment for Amsterdam-based Irdeto since its recently formed partnership with systems integrator Mediatech.

Raymond Mo, Mediatech’s founder and Managing Director, said: “We are excited about our partnership with Irdeto. They are the leading security player with a suite of advanced products for broadcasters, pay-TV operators, and content owners that goes beyond security and cuts across broadcast and streaming solutions.”
