Telenor Strengthens Partnership with SoftAtHome

May 22, 2023 12.53 Europe/London By Julian Clover

SoftAtHome has announced the deployment of Telenor’s latest home gateway and repeater.

These new devices, available to subscribers since early May, are developed by Zyxel Communications, leveraging Wi-Fi 6E technology on a MediaTek Filogic chipset, and powered by SoftAtHome’s Connect’ON and Wifi’ON software products. The network-agnostic gateway can be connected to 5G, DOCSIS, or GPON networks.

SoftAtHome’s Connect’ON ensures connectivity and Quality of Service, utilising either fiber or 5G networks, while the Wifi’ON software delivers a high-quality Wi-Fi experience for Telenor’s new devices. These advancements enhance home Wi-Fi for Telenor’s Norwegian subscribers, offering 6E features such as improved security, better radio spectrum usage, a third 6 GHz band, and a unique zero-touch pairing of repeaters. Telenor benefits from SoftAtHome’s software running seamlessly on the latest generations of home gateway and repeater, simplifying device management and hotline processes.

Anna Hvattum, head of broadband & services at Telenor, said: “We’re delighted to launch our new tri-band products in partnership with SoftAtHome. Connect’ON’s ability to seamlessly manage both 5G and wired connectivity will help future-proof our latest devices. Having the last two generations using different chipsets run under a single software stack makes our life easier”.

David Viret-Lange, CEO of SoftAtHome, added: “Telenor Norway continues to be at the forefront, offering advanced services and features. Working with a new chipset and device manufacturer once again demonstrates our ability to provide hardware independence to our operator clients. I’m particularly proud that Wifi’ON and Connect’ON are powering Telenor’s latest home network solution”.

Alan Hsu, corporate VP of the Intelligent Connectivity Business Unit at MediaTek, said: “SoftAtHome is a recognized leader in software for HOME LAN services. Together with MediaTek’s award-winning Filogic Wi-Fi solutions, we are able to deliver the highest performance, most reliable, and always-on Wi-Fi experience. This project marks our first major deployment together and is just the beginning of many future collaborations”.

James Harris, VP of product and deputy head EMEA RBU at Zyxel, added: “We are proud to play a central role in the ecosystem that has brought the latest technology to Telenor’s subscribers, enabling their home networks to support secure Work-From-Home setups and high-resolution entertainment”.

The introduction of the new tri-band gateway and repeater represents Telenor’s commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions and enhancing the digital experience for its customers.
