The number of pay-TV subscribers in Romania remained unchanged in 2022.
According to the regulator ANCOM, it stood at 7.85 million, with the majority (6.6 million, up 6% on a year earlier) opting for cable and 1.2 million (-21%) DTH. As of the end of 2022 RCS &RDS accounted for the most pay-TV subscribers, with a market share of 69%. It was followed by Orange (16%) and Vodafone (11%).
ANCOM notes that revenues in the telecom sector registered a slight decrease in 2022, falling by 1% to RON16.9 billion (€3.4 billion).
Fixed and mobile internet generated 35% of total revenues, mobile telephony 32%, retransmission of TV channels 15%, fixed telephony 9% and other types of networks/services 9%.
Orange accounted for 40% of revenues, Vodafone 24% and RCS&RDS 24%.
