Dame Caroline Dinenage has been elected as Chair of the parliamentary Culture, Media, and Sport Committee.
The announcement was made following a ballot of all MPs that also featured Damian Collins and Damian Green as candidates.
Dame Caroline replaces Julian Knight and will serve until the end of the parliamentary term. She served as culture minister during the Boris Johnson administration.
In a statement, Dame Caroline said: “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the committee in advocating for the vital culture, media, and sport sectors. These sectors play a significant role, both economically and in communities throughout the country. I am eager to commence our scrutiny of the government, ensuring they deliver on various matters, ranging from gambling regulation and football governance reform to strengthening support for our world-renowned creative industries.”
