ORS Simplifies OTT Video Services with Broadpeak solution

May 17, 2023 12.04 Europe/London By Broadband TV News Correspondent

Broadpeak has announced the deployment of its CDN solution by Austrian broadcaster ORS.

The solution, fully managed by Broadpeak, aims to streamline the management of ORS’ OTT video services, offering enhanced reliability and exceptional quality of experience.

ORS, which provides television to 3.8 million households in Austria, prioritiSes uninterrupted service continuity. By leveraging Broadpeak’s video delivery solution, ORS can deliver live, VOD, and catch-up TV services with a high level of reliability and an outstanding viewer experience.

Norbert Grill, Chief Technology Officer at ORS, said: “Broadpeak enables us to deliver the highest quality of experience to millions of concurrent viewers during live events. They helped us achieve this last year during one of the biggest live events in the world – the major football tournament in Qatar. It worked so well that even our operations team was able to enjoy the action from Qatar. Having Broadpeak fully manage and maintain our video platform reduces our risk of service failure, saves us a significant amount of time, and future-proofs our business.”

Broadpeak’s BkS350 Origin Packager, a key component of the solution, combines just-in-time packaging and a built-in cache mechanism. This feature reduces the need for encoding and storage resources, resulting in significant cost savings for ORS while providing high-throughput capacity.

The deployed solution also includes Broadpeak’s BkM100 Video Delivery Mediator, BkA200 Video Delivery Monitoring, BkYou Video Personalization Solution, and BkT100 file transcoder for video streaming. ORS can leverage these solutions to support advanced features such as time-shift TV, low-latency live sports streaming, video thumbnails, and personalized ad insertion.

Jacques Le Mancq, CEO at Broadpeak, emphasised the benefits of their managed services: “By fully managing ORS’ platform with a set of high-performance tools, enhanced cybersecurity, and a team of skilled engineers, we’re enabling amazing-quality streaming experiences. Our managed services are the perfect option for broadcasters like ORS that don’t want to worry about daily operations, upgrades, monitoring, or troubleshooting.”

Broadpeak’s video delivery solutions, including the BkM100 Video Delivery Mediator, BkS350 Origin Packager, and BkYou Video Personalization Solution, will be showcased at ANGA COM 2023, taking place from May 23-25. Attendees can visit Broadpeak’s booth, A24 (Hall 7), to explore the solutions firsthand.
