The Croatian broadcaster RTL Hrvatska has been fined by the country’s Council for Electronic Media (VEM) for showing insufficient European works in 2022 on its RTL 2 channel.
According to Poslovni, non-compliance of these legal provisions was punishable with fines from HRK100,000 to HRK 1million prior to the introduction of the euro at the beginning of this year. VEM has imposed a fine of HRK100,000 (€13,270) on RTL Hrvatska and HRK10,000 (€1,320) on the person responsible for the infringement.
It has also asked RTL to comment on insufficient share of EU works less than five years old on the channels RTL Crime and RTL Living.
Audiovisual services in Croatia are required to allocate at least 50% of their airtime to European works and half or more of these should be Croatian.
