Orange is trying to persuade the European Commission to approve its merger with MásMóvil in Spain with no preconditions.
According to El Economista, quoting Orange Spain’s CEO Ludovic Pech, it is hoping to conclude the move without being forced to cede assets, frequencies, fibre connections or clients due to the peculiarity of the Spanish market and complementarity of its actors. At present there are eight telcos in Spain with incomes of over €100 million.
Orange Spain has also indicated its willingness to enter an agreement with Telefónica over football rights once the incumbent is no longer bound by conditions tied to its acquisition of the pay-TV operator DTS in 2015.
