SkyShowtime will drop its first Polish-language original series on the streaming service this June.
Warszawianka is a fictional drama that follows the tragicomic adventures of 40-year-old playboy Franek Czulkowski (aka “Czuly”), portrayed by leading Polish actor Borys Szyc.
Czuly is a deeply complex character, a talented writer who has experienced success and failure, and now finds himself trapped between his personal struggles and societal expectations.
SkyShowtime CEO Monty Sarhan said: “As a streaming service created specifically for Europe, SkyShowtime is committed to authentic storytelling that entertains and moves audiences across our markets. We are excited to bring Warszawianka – our first Polish original series—to audiences this June. Brilliantly written by Jakub Zulczyk and starring the talented Borys Szyc, Warszawianka is compelling entertainment at its best. It is provocative adult-story telling and we are proud to be the exclusive home for this amazing show.”
The series consists of 11, 40-minute length episodes, and features some of the most interesting characters in the city who inhabit Czuly’s life.
“There are people who add colour to our lives – but they themselves live on the edge of black,” explains script writer said Jakub Zulczyk. “Warszawianka is the story of Franek ‘Czuly” – a 40-year-old who is still a teenager. He is the best and worst father in the world. He is a sweet talker caught up in the city lifestyle, and a good guy who keeps making bad decisions. He is a man who is still in love, however he has no idea how to love. There are only a few guys like Czuly, and I believe viewers will be drawn to the show as I think many will find a part of themselves in his story. SkyShowtime have demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting the series and is the perfect home for Warszawianka.”
Warszawianka is filmed in Poland with the support provided through the Act on Financial Support for Audio-visual Production by the Polish Film Institute and funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
