The renewed success of Canal+ Group continues to drive revenues for parent Vivendi.
The pay-tv operation contributed £1,478 million in the first quarter, a 2.2% increase, drawn from across the business. Revenues from television operations in mainland France increased by 1.4% compared to the first quarter of 2022, driven primarily by the growth of subscription revenue.
It has been another eventful quarter for the group, which in January announced it was to acquire Orange’s pay-TV business and production subsidiary OCS. A month later it took its share in the South African company MultiChoice Group to 30.27%.
Most recently a multi-year agreement was reached with Apple TV+ that will make content from the streaming service available to all Canal+ subscribers in mainland France.
“The landmark agreement with Apple confirms Canal+ Group’s leadership position in France as a content aggregator,” said Yannick Bolloré, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Vivendi, and Arnaud de Puyfontaine, Chairman of the Management Board and CEO in a joint statement.
The offer will initially be available in France and Switzerland and will be extended to the Czech Republic and Slovakia, territories served by the Canal+ Group.
