Slovakia’s government has approved a new funding for the public broadcaster RTVS.
According to Digizone, it will result in receiver licence fees being abolished on July 1. They will be replaced with a subsidy amounting to 0.15% of the country’s GDP. This will amount to around €160 million in 2024.
Given that this year RTVS expected to obtain around €83 million from receiver licence fees and €31 million from the state, its funding next year will increase by €46 million.
However, it will still not be enough to meet the broadcaster’s strategic goals and its “technological debt”, according CEO Lubos Machaj.
