Belarus’s Ministry of Information banned the distribution of Setanta Sports 1 and 2 in the country.
According to TV News, the ban on the channels will come into effect this Tuesday (April 12). The report points out that the incumbent telco Beltelecom began to rebroadcast the channels on March 31 after a two-year break.
Beltelecom has yet to announce it will no longer carry the channels, while the Minsk operators MTIS and Kosmos TV have informed viewers they will no longer be included in their line-up.
Meanwhile, MTS has said the channels will only be temporarily suspended.
Broadband TV News notes that Setanta Sports 1 and 2 are owned by the Irish broadcaster Setanta Sports, and although the company’s shares were acquired by the Adjara Group (not adjarasport), it remains under the ownership of the EBEL.
