Viasat to launch hourly channels in Russia

April 5, 2023 09.34 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Viasat became the first pay-TV broadcaster in Russia to launch four hourly versions for its movie TV channels.

This follows an agreement with the Orion Group of companies, which has helped to form viju TV1000, viju TV1000 Russian and viju TV1000 action TV channels in hourly versions +7, +4, +2 and 0.

According to Orion, this was done by using a unique technical solution that provides full redundancy and the possibility of inserting regional advertising, different for each hourly version, as on federal TV channels.

Commenting on the development, Andrey Trufanov, deputy director of the department of telecommunication services at Orion, said: “Thanks to the launch of zone broadcasting, viewers of Viasat TV channels will have access to the content of TV channels in the current time zone throughout Russia. This is a great example of the effective use of watch versions to maintain the loyalty of the audience. I am sure that Viasat’s innovation will contribute to the emergence of such cases among commercial broadcasters”.

Alexey Krol, general director of Viasat, added: “Care for the audience is our top priority. Therefore, we are constantly striving to become better, to create the most comfortable conditions for watching our channels. The transition to broadcasting by time zones is an important step for our company, which will strengthen the presence of Viasat in the regions. In the near future, residents of all parts of Russia will be able to watch films and TV shows on the air, tied to local time. Morning content will be shown in the morning and evening content in the evening. Thus, the zone broadcasting system will make viewing more convenient and harmonious for the regional viewer”.
