Apple is considering making a bid for the rights to stream a range of football games in the UK.
The streamer hopes by including Premier League football in its offer it will encourage more UK households to sign up for its Apple TV+ service.
Live rights to the Premier League are currently shared by Sky, BT Sport and Amazon Prime in deals that will run until 2025. The current contracts were rolled over from the previous round of rights.
The EFL, which comprises the three leagues below the Premier League, is currently held by Sky which pays £119 million per year. Last October, the EFL released a new request for proposals that included the possibility of lifting the 3pm Saturday blackout on matches. DAZN and Viaplay have already been linked with a bid.
Apple already holds the rights to sports events including Major League Soccer and Friday Night Baseball, depending on the market.
Earlier this week Apple TV+ received 15 nominations in the BAFTA Television Awards.
