Mário Vaz to head Vodafone Spain

March 22, 2023 19.27 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Vodafone Spain has announced the appointment of Mário Vaz as CEO, effective April 1.

Vaz began his career at Vodafone Portugal in 1992 and has been its CEO since 2012. He has held various commercial roles in the company before his appointment as director of the corporate business unit in 1999, and as director of the consumer unit in 2002. From this position, in 2009 he joined the board of directors and was subsequently appointed CEO.

Under his leadership as CEO, Vodafone Portugal has successfully made the transition from mobile telephony to convergence. Likewise, Vaz has also led various fibre network expansion projects, which has allowed Vodafone Portugal to reach 4.3 million homes and businesses with a fixed and convergent offer.

Commenting on his appointment, Vaz said: “It is an honour for me to lead Vodafone Spain, an exceptional company, which is recognised for the talent of its professionals, for its reputable brand with the purpose of contributing to the country and a pioneer in technological and service innovations. I am looking forward to drive the growth of the company on these assets”.

Vaz will continue to report to Serpil Timuray, CEO of Vodafone’s European Cluster, who said: “I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mário Vaz as the new CEO of Vodafone Spain.

“Mário is an exceptional leader with a consistent track record of serving our customers, as well as business growth, shareholder value generation, internal talent development and contribution to society. I am looking forward to working with Mário and helping Vodafone Spain to serve our customers and society with determination and excellence”.
