Italy’s football league is considering a proposal to buy Sky Italia from its current owners Comcast.
In a story first reported by the Italian daily La Stampa, Serie A would wants to create its own Serie A channel. By purchasing the broadcaster as a whole, the League would automatically have access to Sky’s infrastructure and customer base.
Banks JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Barclays and Citi are said to be behind the transaction.
Comcast bought Sky in 2018 for €40 billion. While the emergence of direct-to-consumer streaming has led to a devaluation, it continues to invest in the product.
However, with Sky Deutschland also known to be on table, a deal could be struck.
A second decision will be taken on the next round of TV rights.
