SF Anytime acquire Blockbuster streaming service

March 8, 2023 11.32 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Swedish streamer SF Anytime has acquired its Danish counterpart Blockbuster from owners Nuuday.

SF Anytime and Blockbuster will continue to operate under their own brands, but offer unified content to their customers.

“The two businesses complement each other very well as SF Anytime has its strength in Sweden and Blockbuster’s focus is on the Danish market,” says Michael Holmberg, CEO of SF Anytime. “Our combined experience together with our technical know-how and broad offering creates a better service for millions of households in the Nordics”.

The deal gives SF Anytime the Blockbuster brand and all of Blockbuster’s customer relationships.

“Blockbuster has undergone strong business development under Nuuday’s ownership, and we are proud to be able to hand over a Danish market leader in digital rental and purchase movies to SF Anytime, which we are convinced is a better long-term strategic owner of Blockbuster,” says Jens Grønlund, Executive Vice President at Nuuday.

SF Anytime has distribution agreements with all major film companies and most local distributors and offers the largest content library in the Nordics, a range that now also benefits Blockbuster’s customers.

Both SF Anytime’s and Blockbuster’s offerings are available via their own digital consumer platforms. SF Anytime is also distributed through leading TV operators in the Nordics, and through the acquisition of Blockbuster, they also take over distribution via the Danish TV operator YouSee.
