Paramount Global is considering the sale of a majority stake in BET Media Group, which includes the BET linear channel, BET Studios and VH1.
BET launched to African American audiences in 1980.
Paramount Global believes the brand would attract substantial interest from Black investors or institutions.
Among them is Tyler Perry, who partnered with BET for the launch of the BET+ subscription service in 2019. His interest was cited by Wall Street Journal and Hollywood Reporter, though the actor-producer has made no comment.
Allen Media Group, which runs The Weather Channel, has also expressed an interest.
