The Latvian incumbent Tet has accused the telco Balticom of massively damaging its optical internet infrastructure and using it to provide its own services.
In a statement, Tet says it has informed the State Police of deliberate damage to its network in the city of Ventspils, adding that in the last month it has detected Balticom using the network to provide its own services to over 300 households.
Tet also says that representatives of Balticom have acknowledged these actions but still continue to carry out violations.
Commenting on the violations, Tet customer care director Alla Krumina said: “The competitive battle in the telecommunications sector has always been fierce, however, this is the first time we are facing such cynical deliberate damage to the infrastructure of another operator and threats against taking action to recover our property. It could be said that we are currently experiencing a kind of legal racketeering, as a result of which the residents of Ventspils are also being deceived. Thank you to the representatives of the State Police, for whom this process requires a lot of resources, which they could use in a more rational way, and who tirelessly make trips to the places of events in order to record violations and take care of compliance with the rule of law”.
