Several TV stations in Albania have been fined by the country’s General Tax Directorate.
According to Balkan Insight, they include Ora News and Focus News, which will be required to pay ALL50 million (€427,693) and ALL20 million for unspecified infringements.
It adds that the stations claim they are being targeted for being critical of the government.
On the other hand, the Albanian authorities claim they are trying to tackle tax evasion in the country.
The Hysenbelliu Group of companies, which includes Focus News, the operator of the News 24 channel, claims it has to date been fined around €17 million.
Last autumn the authorities demolished a hotel owned by the group.
