France Télévisions, M6 and TF1 have confirmed their decision to close the streaming platform Salto.
In a statement, the partners said the decision was taken following the abandonment of the merger project between TF1 and M6, which they say would have allowed Salto to be taken over by the new entity.
There was also criticism for local platform operators that had refused to distribute Salto. “The shareholders of Salto judged that the conditions were not met for the continuation of Salto in its current shareholding, due to the complex and constrained governance of this alliance and the refusal of most operators and Internet service providers to distribute the platform as [they did] American platforms.”
It was also confirmed that a number of partners were interested in the 800,000 subscriber service, but no agreement could be reached.
A liquidator has been appointed and subscribers will be advised as to what will happen to the unused portion of their subscription.
Talks will also begin will also begin with employee representatives over a redundancy programme. The partners are looking to transfer a number of them into the main companies.
