Russian OTT services will no longer show Disney movies and series from next month.
According to Vedomosti, this was confirmed to the publication by four leading managers. However, the OTT services Kinopoisk, ivi and Okko, as well Disney’s Russian office, refused to comment.
Although Disney, along with other Hollywood majors, stopped releasing films in Russia in March last year, its content has continued to be shown by Russian OTT platforms. Furthermore, Disney Channel, which was launched in Russia in 2010, continues to operate.
Disney is understood to have told Russian OTT platforms back in 2022 that it did not plan to renew or enter into new contracts following then expiry of old ones.
