The BBC has given details of the presenter line-up for BBC News, the combination of the domestic BBC News channel and BBC World News.
The presenter line-up of Matthew Amroliwala, Christian Fraser, Yalda Hakim, Lucy Hockings, and Maryam Moshiri has been drawn largely from the international service with many UK names including Ben Brown and Martine Croxhall not selected by the competitive interview process. Presenter Jane Hill – like Amroliwala a presenter on the then BBC News 24 at launch in 1997 – will be offered more shifts on BBC One bulletins.
Advertising will now begin for eight correspondent roles. These will be on-air journalists who will present, as well as report, on the channel.
Recruitment is underway for two on-air presenting roles based in Washington DC, which will be announced shortly.
Deborah Turness, CEO of BBC News, says: “I’m thrilled to announce the faces of our channel.
“This team’s editorial leadership, talent, knowledge and flair make them the ideal presenters to bring the BBC’s trusted journalism to people at home in the UK and around the globe, and to guide audiences through the big stories as they break.”
BBC News will be broadcast both in the UK and around the world, with advertising outside the UK only. The channel will be anchored from London during UK daytime and evening, and from Washington DC and Singapore overnight.
At points during the schedule, UK audiences will see dedicated UK output, principally the main BBC One domestic bulletin at Breakfast, 13.00, 18.00 and 22.00, and a mid-morning relay of BBC Radio Five Live’s Nicky Campbell programme.
