Russia’s Orion expands product range

January 25, 2023 09.30 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Orion group of companies has introduced two new products to assist the TV industry in Russia.

Known as Orion.Drive and Orion.Broadcast, the offer storage of broadcasters’ content and multi-media signal delivery to operators and broadcasters respectively. According to Orion, the Russian pay-TV market has faced a number of problems: lack of equipment for data storage; the impossibility of using the usual software; lack of technical support for the solutions used; and high cost of possible alternatives. Considering that work with TV content has a pronounced industry specificity, Orion has decided to create its own system for storing and adjusting content, focused on the needs of the TV industry.

The Orion.Drive storage system is organised on the basis of broadband access to content with the possibility of restricting rights, and provides for the rapid expansion of storage volumes. Content is placed on the territory of the Russian Federation, in a secure data centre, with redundant communication channels and power supply systems.

Regarding Orion.Broadcast, responding to the growing demand for terrestrial delivery of a TV signal among users of a satellite media platform, Orion is now offering cable operators and broadcasters an appropriate solution.

Along with satellite broadcasting, TV channel signals are transmitted at the central Moscow communication centre MMTS-9 and/or via the internet. More than 200 TV channels are available to operators.
