France Télévisions has indicated its intention to pull out of the French streaming platform Salto.
The public broadcaster’s decision adds to the uncertainty around the platform that it ran jointly with commercial partners M6 and TF1.
The thoughts of France Télévisions President Delphine Ernotte that the PSB “must give up on Salto”, following a meeting of the broadcaster’s Economic Social Committee (CSE) were relayed by the union leader Antoine Chuzeville.
It seems probable that without a buyer, Salto will close in the next few weeks. The Spanish company Agile is seen as the only possible buyer.
Salto currently employs 42 people on permanent contracts and 8 fixed-term contracts. A number are likely to be re-employed by their parent companies.
According to Chuzeville, Friday’s meeting saw Elected representatives to the CSE “call for the emergence of a digital public audiovisual platform” bringing together France Télévisions, TV5 Monde or Arte.
