Around 42% of internet users in Portugal subscribed to on demand video streaming services in 2022.
According to the regulator ANACOM, this was 9pp more than in 2020 and placed the country in 16th place in EU27 ranking. However, the overall penetration of such services, not just among internet users, was 36% in 2022. This was also 9pp more than two years earlier and placed Portugal in 17th place in EU27 ranking.
Looking at OTT services in general, ANACOM says that 81% of internet users made voice or video calls over the internet in 2022, or 2pp more than a year earlier.
Meanwhile, instant messaging was used by 92% of internet users, and online news reading, participation in social networks, online music and internet banking all had participation levels of over 50%.
