Subscribers to HBO Max will pay an extra $1 per month for the streaming service.
In the first price increase since its inception, the monthly ad-free subscription cost will rise from $14.99 to $15.99. The raise took effect on January 12, though existing subscribers won’t see a difference until next month.
The ad-supported version remains unchanged at 2023.
Since the formation of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), the streaming service has seen a string of popular shows such as WestWorld, Raised by Wolves and The Time Traveller’s Wife either cancelled or removed. This has allowed the shows to be licensed to third-party channels.
This week a slate of original content originally commissioned for HBO Max in Europe was licensed to SkyShowtime.
In the United States, WBD is planning to launch a combined HBO Max-Discovery+ platform this Spring. There are similar plans in Europe, but this is complicated by a number of output deals with other platforms including Comcast’s Sky.
