Netflix signals Polish expansion

January 10, 2023 13.02 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Netflix has announced plans to open an engineering centre in Polish capital, Warsaw.

According to the company, 2022 was an important moment in its history in Poland. After being present on the market for six years, it opened an office for Central and Eastern Europe in Warsaw. Netflix has already produced over 30 Polish films and series – last year alone, the service allocated PLN400 million for local productions, and since 2018 it has created over 3,500 jobs in its own productions: for Polish actors, screenwriters, directors and crews working on and off set, which are the backbone of every production.

It adds that the next step and investment on the Polish market is the creation of an engineering centre. It will be responsible for developing products and services used by Netflix’s internal and external partners who produce and manage content on the service. The solutions that the team from Warsaw will be working on will enable the entire content production process, from idea to implementation and publication on the website, and provide new, innovative ways to manage entertainment on a global scale.

According to Deborah Black, VP of engineering, “the decision to invest in Poland was made many months ago at the company’s headquarters in Los Gatos and was made by the management of the company’s technology team. We chose Poland because of access to great specialists – Polish IT universities have an excellent reputation, and developers from Poland are valued experts, willingly employed around the world.

“We look forward to this partnership and believe that the new center will help us expand our global technology organization and bring even more innovation to the solutions we create”.
