The French VOD platform Cinessance has closed after it ran out of funding.
“Developing a streaming platform requires a lot of capital, on one hand to acquire great content, and on the other hand to make those films known to the largest possible audience. In a particularly tense financial context and despite your loyalty and enthusiasm, we haven’t been able to raise enough capital to pursue our development,” said founder Clément Monnet in a message to subscribers.
Monnet added that he was closing the service with a heavy heart, knowing there was a “real desire” for French cinema abroad.
Cinessance has arranged for a discounted subscription to the France Channel platform for its subscribers.
Launched in November 2021, Cinessance was initially available in the United States and Canada.
