Netflix has introduced a pilot project in Poland under which it is providing creators of popular local productions with additional remuneration.
According to Presserwis, under current legislation Polish creators cannot receive royalties from broadcasts on streaming services. T
his is because the country has yet to implement the EU directive on copyright and related rights in the digital single market.
However, quoting Anna Turowska, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, current regulations do not prevent the creators of series or films from agreeing with the producer the right to participate in the profits from their exploitation.
Netflix’s pilot in Poland is based on solutions it has already implemented with trade unions representing actors and creators in Germany, Norway and Sweden.
