The French streaming platform Salto faces an uncertain future after TF1 and M6 announced their intention to withdraw from the project.
There has been tension between the two commercial broadcasters and their public partner France Télévisions resulting from the aborted merger between TF1 and M6. France Télévisions had already indicated its desire to leave had the merger gone ahead and had negotiated a value of €45 million for its stake.
TF1 and M6 both hold 33.33% in Salto, which launched just two years ago.
Their decision was made last Thursday during a meeting of the Supervisory Board.
While Canal+ Group is touted as a possible purchaser for Salto, the original partners appear prepared to offer an output deal for the service. Without them Salto would take on a very different character.
