A decade-old Spanish TV pirate has been held responsible for infringing the rights of Spain’s top-flight football.
The Supreme Court says Igor Seoane obtained significant profits from offering illegal access to LaLiga matches via Rojadirecta. It follows a complaint by the sports rights brokers Mediapro and LaLiga.
The court said Seoane and as the director of Puerto 80 Projects, owner of the Rojadirecta website was personally liable for breaching the intellectual property rights of Mediapro and LaLiga. It follows a Provincial Court ruling that disassociated Seonane from Puerto 80’s activities.
Mediapro has already filed a suit claiming €354 million against Puero 80. In the light of the ruling, it’s now also taking action against Seoane himself.
The proceedings are the latest in a series of actions by Mediapro and LaLiga against pirates in Spain.
