Telekom Romania has decided not to apply for a national 5G licence, raising questions marks over the future of its parent company Deutsche Telekom in the country.
In a statement, the regulator ANCOM said that up until the deadline on October 27 it had only received applications for participation in the competition from Orange Romania, RCS&RDS and Vodafone Romania. The tender commission will analyse the qualification documents and announce by November 4 at the latest which operators will participate in the tender launched by ANCOM on September 19.
Local reports say the decision not to participate in the tender could be a sign that Deutsche Telekom is preparing to exit Romania.
Broadband TV News notes that Telekom Romania has already sold its fixed-line business to Orange. It still retains its mobile and DTH operations.
