Virgin Media Stream counters Sky Stream launch

October 19, 2022 18.16 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Virgin Media is to include its Stream product to all customers taking broadband packages above 350Mbps.

It has also dispensed with the £35 activation fee and says Virgin Media Stream customers can make savings of up to £375 per year in comparison to similar services with Sky Stream.

“Stream from Virgin Media was built on three core principles – value, flexibility, and convenience,” said David Bouchier, Chief TV & Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media O2. “At a time when every penny counts, we’re offering our customers even more value, so they squeeze the most out of their money with discounted streaming services or Stream credit giving them extra money back.”

There is no subscription fee for Stream, customers pay for the services they can choose, opt out of those they are no longer interested in, and receive a discount off the total bill.

BT Sport comes down from the £30 on Sky to £10 on Virgin Stream. The offer is similar to that enjoyed by customers to the BT-owned mobile network EE.

Undercutting Sky on one of its own services is a little more tricky. Virgin Media says it can save £6.25 on Sky Sports, which could be eating into the wholesale ratecard, or overlooking the fact that to have Virgin Media Stream, you need to take the operator’s broadband service at a cost of £56 per month.
