The total number of pay-TV subscribers in Spain stood at 9.2 million as of the end of Q1 this year.
According to the regulator CNMC, was 7.7% more than in the same period in 2021. Furthermore, IPTV technology (trough fibre and xDSL networks), remained the most favoured technology, with over 5 million subscribers. In Q1, average daily TV consumption was 3 hours and 16 minutes per person, down 31 minutes on a year earlier. In terms of consumption, DTT accounted for 74%, followed by cable and IPTV (24.9%) and satellite (1.1%).
The most watched channels were Antena 3, Telecinco and La 1, with an audience of 14.2% for the first, 12.8% for the second and 8.5% for the third. By groups, Atresmedia and Mediaset were the leaders, with 28.7 and 26.4 audience share points in the quarter, respectively.
TV revenues remained stable during Q1, although pay-TV revenues fell by 2.9% compared to the previous year (with a turnover of €496 .8 million), while FTA TV grew by 3.3% year-on-year (recording revenues of €344.3 million).
Mediaset and Atresmedia, together accounted for 81.9% of TV ad revenue. This percentage was 87.7% if only the open TV segment was taken into account.
