wedotv launches documentary channel wedo big docs

September 23, 2022 08.55 Europe/London By Broadband TV News Correspondent

Video Solutions AG is launching ad-supported, linear streaming channel wedo big docs.

The FAST channel (Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV) will be available from autumn 2022 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on Zattoo as well as on waipu.tv in Germany. In the UK, wedo big docs will be offered on Netgem TV, and in Greece and Cyprus on Digitaltree.

wedo big docs is the first channel created as part of a joint venture between Video Solutions AG and Big Media Holdings, one of the world’s leading studios for non-fiction productions. Further joint FAST channels are being planned.

“The joint venture combines Big Media’s years of experience in producing documentaries and factual entertainment content with our experience in building and distributing ad-supported streaming channels,” said Philipp Rotermund, founder and CEO of Video Solutions AG. “The market segment of ad-supported streaming channels has grown strongly in recent years, but there are still markets where FAST is an untapped source of revenue. We look forward to working together to unlock new opportunities to bring great content to viewers around the world.”

Jon Loew, Chairman of Big Media Holdings, added: “As FAST continues to become the dominant business model worldwide, it’s important to partner with companies who have experience in maximising the value of content in direct-to-consumer offerings. We are excited to launch our new channel with Video Solutions.”

The launch of wedo big docs follows Video Solutions’ expansion with the wedo movies channel. The FAST channel recently launched on Zattoo and for DTH satellite households as an HbbTV service on Astra (19.2° East). The channel can also be received on Deutsche Telekom’s MagentaTV platform as well as on Samsung TV Plus waipu.tv, LG Channels, Philips, Xiaomi, Netgem and TCL.

Video Solutions also operates the advertising-supported, free video-on-demand service (AVoD) wedotv, offering series, documentaries, TV shows and sports as well as lifestyle, comedy and automotive programmes.
