The Ukrainian media community has sent an open letter to Euronews; the investment company Alpac Capital, which recently acquired a controlling stake in the broadcaster; and the European Commission (EC).
In it, the leading media groups in Ukraine (1+1 Media and StraLight Media), along with – amongst others – the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy, regulator National Council, Mediarukh and other bodies/ organisations say that the Russian language version of Euronews “engages in massive daily media manipulation on the subject of (the war in Ukraine) and “viewers are imperceptibly imposed a pro-Russian understanding of the cause-and-effect relationships of what is happening in Ukraine, about the role of Russia in these processes, about the responsibility of the parties in the war, etc”.
The open letter specifically refers to an analysis of the materials published during five days (Monday-Friday, 15.08-19.08) in the Russian-language version of Euronews.
The authors of the letter call also on all concerned journalists, representatives of public organisations, and the media community from around the world to join the signatories of the open letter. This can be done by sending a request to prgroup@1plus1.tv.
