A former marketing executive with WWE Entertainment has been named as the UK’s new culture secretary.
Michelle Donelan was announced as the replacement for Nadine Dorries by newly installed prime minister Liz Truss.
Prior to her election in 2015, the Chippenham MP also worked for the magazine Marie Clare.
This is Ms Donelan’s second cabinet most, she was previously education secretary, having been appointed in the dying days of the Johnson administration. She resigned 36 hours later making her the shortest serving cabinet minister in history.
Ms Donelan spent three years in the Department of Education, first as Children and Families Minister, then Minister of State for Universities.
At the top of her Inbox will be the privatisation of Channel 4 and the debate over a replacement for the TV Licence Fee. A review was due to begin in July, but thrown into doubt following Boris Johnson’s resignation.
Dorries is now expected to receive a peerage as part of Boris Johnson’s resignation honours list.
