The share of smart TVs in the overall German TV market continues to rise.
A total of 2.7 million TV sets were sold in Germany in 2022 by the end of July, reports industry association Deutsche TV-Plattform with reference to GfK figures. Almost all of these sets are smart TVs (2.5 million), which enable the use of apps or catch-up services. The share of smart TVs in the total market amounted to 96%, a further increase compared to the previous year (94%).
As in 2021, three out of four TVs sold are Ultra HD sets (2 million units), almost all of which (99%) support at least one High Dynamic Range (HDR) standard. 83% of HDR TVs support not only static HDR but also dynamic HDR (2021: 80%).
TV sets with a screen size of 50 inches and larger continue to be in demand. With more than 1.4 million sets sold, this group accounts for 55% of the total market. More than 20% of consumers opted for a TV set with a screen diagonal of at least 65 inches.
